Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh has emphasised research, development, and innovation in the textiles sector because of its huge potential and employment generation capacity. Mr. Singh was holding a dialogue session at the NIFT, Patna campus, with students. He said there is a need to work in the field of future-generation fibres like carbon and technical fibre because it will attract a huge amount of foreign exchange.

Mr. Singh said carbon fibre is an emerging option for the defence, aerospace, and strategic sectors. The union minister said the Modi government has provided 1500 crore rupees for innovation in the textiles sector. He said the ministry has engaged 157 start-ups in this regard.

He further added that the ministry has planned to take the size of the textiles sector to 350 billion dollars from the existing 167 billion dollars. The Union Minister rued that despite huge potential in Bihar, there was no attempt made for an ecosystem for the textiles sector.
