Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, S Krishnan, said that the Government has approved the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0 with an outlay of 1 lakh 27 thousand 500 crore rupees to strengthen semiconductor manufacturing and build a self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem in the country. Speaking at the CII Conference on Advancing Atmanirbharta in Semiconductor Design and Manufacturing in New Delhi today, he said that this year marks a milestone for India’s semiconductor industry, with three semiconductor units already commencing commercial production. The Secretary said ISM 2.0 will continue to support semiconductor fabrication units, advanced packaging, ATMP and OSAT facilities. Highlighting the key feature of ISM 2.0, Mr Krishnan said the scheme adopts a comprehensive ecosystem approach by promoting equipment, materials, specialty gases and chemicals, alongside manufacturing, to strengthen India’s semiconductor value chain.

The Secretary said that developing a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem will require sustained efforts and long-term commitment, adding that transformative change in the sector will take time. He reaffirmed the Government’s policy commitment to supporting the industry and said the current initiatives provide a significant opportunity to strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.
