Govt approves over 2.13 lakh additional houses for eligible urban poor families under PM Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0

The Government has approved more than 2 lakh 13 thousand additional houses for eligible urban poor families under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0. The approval was given at the 7th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee, chaired by Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Srinivas Katikithala in New Delhi today.
 
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said that with the latest approvals, the total number of houses sanctioned under PMAY-Urban 2.0 has crossed 16 lakh 13 thousand. The newly approved houses include about 1 lakh 89 thousand houses under the Beneficiary-Led Construction vertical and over 23 thousand houses under the Affordable Housing in Partnership vertical across 16 States.
 
The Ministry said that the scheme continues to prioritise women-led ownership and housing for vulnerable sections of society. It added that out of the 2.13 lakh houses sanctioned in the latest round, around 2.05 lakh have been allotted to women, while 25 thousand houses have been sanctioned for senior citizens. The approvals also include houses for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and transgender beneficiaries.
 
The Committee also reviewed the progress of PMAY-Urban 2.0 and discussed measures to speed up construction, strengthen project monitoring and promote housing projects near mass transit corridors to improve connectivity and quality of life for beneficiaries. The Ministry said PMAY-Urban and PMAY-Urban 2.0 together have sanctioned over 1 crore 27 lakh  houses across the country and provided a significant boost to the Housing for All mission.
