Govt aims to make another three crore Lakhpati Didis across the country: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

 
Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Prime Minister’s vision of making three crore Lakhpati Didis in the country has been fulfilled, and the government now aims to make another three crore Lakhpati Didis. Mr. Chouhan was addressing a programme in Baran, Rajasthan, after inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for development projects worth ₹1,258 crore.
 
He said ₹13,461 crore has so far been provided to women to support self-employment. In Rajasthan, women’s empowerment is being promoted through Rajeevika, under which 32 lakh Lakhpati Didis will be created.
 
The Union Minister said several changes have been introduced in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin to ensure that poor families can have their own homes. Under the revised provisions, women who own two-wheelers and those earning ₹15,000 will also be eligible for housing assistance. Farmers owning up to five acres of unirrigated land or 2.5 acres of irrigated land will also be eligible for financial assistance to construct houses.
