The government has extended the existing customs duty exemption on cotton imports until the 31st of December this year. The Finance Ministry has issued a notification in this regard. The exemption, which was earlier valid until the 31st of October, has been extended to ensure adequate availability of cotton for the Indian textile sector.
The extension is expected to reduce input costs across the textile and apparel industries, providing relief to manufacturers and consumers while safeguarding the interests of domestic farmers.
The Finance Ministry said the measure is also expected to boost the performance of the domestic textile industry, particularly small and medium enterprises, by ensuring better availability of cotton in the market.
