Government committed to strengthening wind energy manufacturing sector: Pralhad Joshi

As India is developing into a manufacturing hub in the energy sector, the Government is fully committed to supporting the manufacturing sector pertaining to non-conventional wind energy.

In his inaugural address at the Windergy 2026 conference in Chennai, Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has been witnessing rapid growth in the manufacturing sector. He said that exports have risen to 43.8 billion dollars and the country has recorded 8 percent growth in the economy.

The Minister said that it is an achievement for India to have produced 271 gigawatts of energy till May this year. He also said that the target is to produce 1,000 gigawatts by 2030. He assured that the country has the capacity to produce more than 1,120 gigawatts in the near future.

The Minister said that India is developing into a manufacturing hub in the energy sector. Windergy India 2026 is India’s flagship trade fair and conference, being held in Chennai. The sector added a record 6.05 GW of wind capacity last financial year and, till August this year, has produced 58.52 GW.

The conference brings together 400 delegates and 350 exhibitors from 20 countries, including major producers such as Suzlon India, Venwind and Renfra, Adani Wind and Leap Green, as well as country pavilions from Germany, Denmark and Spain.

India stands as the fourth-largest wind power market in the world. More than 30 GW of wind projects are currently under implementation. Gujarat remains the top wind energy-producing state, followed by Tamil Nadu, while Karnataka ranks third in wind energy production.
