Goa Police arrests wanted PLA member Nongthongbam Ingo after two decades on the run

In a major breakthrough, the Goa Police Crime Branch has arrested a wanted member of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA), an insurgent organisation active in Manipur.

The accused had reportedly been absconding for nearly two decades. The arrested individual has been identified as Nongthongbam Ingo, also known by the aliases Krishna and Lal. According to police officials, Ingo was a self-styled Lieutenant Colonel of the PLA. He was apprehended on Friday from the Fatorda-Margao area following a carefully planned operation.

After his arrest, Ingo was handed over to the Manipur Police for further legal proceedings. Police sources revealed that Ingo arrived in Goa on June 16. He is wanted in connection with a case registered in Manipur under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. The case was filed at the Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district.

The breakthrough came after Manipur Police arrested two militants on June 5 in an extortion-related case. During interrogation, authorities obtained information regarding Ingo’s location and movements. Acting on the intelligence, Goa Police launched a surveillance operation, laid a trap, and successfully arrested the wanted insurgent. Officials stated that further investigation into the case is currently underway.
