Goa joined the global observance of the 12th International Yoga Day with a major programme at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao. Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Naik, students, teachers, government employees and yoga practitioners participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sawant said yoga promotes mental balance, discipline and overall well-being. He stressed that the practice should become an integral part of daily life and highlighted the Goa government’s efforts to promote yoga and Ayurveda.
Union Minister Shripad Naik said yoga has evolved into a mass movement that contributes to a healthier and more resilient society. He noted that the practice encourages self-awareness, physical fitness and mental peace.
The programme also featured the release of the Common Yoga Protocol booklet. Participants performed yoga exercises, while school students showcased traditional yoga postures as part of the celebrations.
