In Ghana, opposition candidate John Mahama claimed victory in a presidential elections after ruling New Patriotic Party candidate and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat even before the announcement of official results. Vice President Bawumia said, he respects the decision of people of Ghana who have voted for change. Opposition candidate John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress party in a social media post described his victory as emphatic. According to Ghana’s election commission, official results are likely to be announced by Tuesday.
65 year old Mahama was the president of Ghana between July 2012 and January 2017. The defeat in election ended President Nana Akufo-Addo’s two terms in power for the governing New Patriotic Party. His tenure is marked by Ghana’s worst economic crisis in years involving high inflation and a debt default.
