In Germany, one person was killed and fifteen others injured after a van ploughed into crowds gathered for Berlin’s annual LGBTQ+ Pride celebrations, prompting police to call off the event. Authorities said several of the injured remain in critical condition. Firefighters, paramedics, ambulances and emergency response teams rushed to the scene to treat victims and secure the area.

Berlin police have identified a suspect who they say has ties to Islamist circles in the German capital.

The city’s Pride parade, known as Christopher Street Day, is one of Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ celebrations and draws hundreds of thousands of participants and spectators each year.
