The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has proposed a single-phase rollout of Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labelling for packaged foods high in salt, sugar or fat. In an affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, the food regulator proposed a red hexagon warning label on the front of such products, specifying the nutrient exceeding the prescribed limit.
FSSAI said the proposal will undergo public and industry consultations before finalisation. It has estimated that the draft regulations could be finalised within about four months after the consultation process.
