Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has proposed to ban the sale of analogue product as paneer. In a notification, the FSSAI stated that the products already licensed or registered under the ‘Analogue in Dairy Context’ category shall discontinue the use of the term Paneer in their nomenclature, labelling or marketing. The FSSAI has proposed the amendment to the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011 for Analogue Paneer. This has been done to restrict manufacturing and sale of analogue products so that consumers are not misled regarding the nature and composition of the product.
