The Federation of Seed Industry of India (FSII) has said that seed sector can play an important role in enhancing agricultural production and making the country self-reliant. Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of FSII in New Delhi, the Chairman of the Federation, Ajai Rana, said that the Indian seed industry aims to raise India’s share of global seed trade from around one percent to 10 percent by 2035. He said, Government initiatives such as the National Mission on High-Yielding Seeds are important steps and the seed industry is ready to invest more in research, especially in oilseeds and pulses. Mr Rana also emphasized for a single national framework for seed regulation, faster science-based approvals for new varieties and technologies, and stronger protection of intellectual property, especially in oilseeds and pulses.
