Fresh rainfall has reignited flood concerns in parts of Odisha, even as relief and restoration operations continue in the aftermath of the recent floods. Balasore is facing renewed inundation in low-lying areas following a rise in the Jalaka River, while more districts remain under weather alerts. Akashvani correspondent reports that with another spell of heavy rainfall forecast, the State Government and disaster management agencies have intensified preparedness and monitoring across vulnerable areas.

 

Odisha’s post-flood situation remains under close watch as fresh rainfall has triggered renewed flood concerns in Balasore. The Jalaka River has crossed the danger mark at Mathani, rising to 6.56 metres against the danger level of 6.50 metres, inundating low-lying agricultural land in Basta and nearby areas.

 

Authorities are monitoring vulnerable embankments and remain prepared for evacuation if required. Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms and lightning across Odisha for the next five days, with an Orange Warning for Mayurbhanj and Yellow Warnings for several other districts. Another cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal around 12th of this month. The State Government has already released 110 crore rupees as preliminary assistance for 22 flood-affected districts, with the highest allocations going to Balasore, Jajpur and Bhadrak.
