In France, Bastille Day is being celebrated with a strong display of European unity as troops and aircraft from across the continent joined the annual military parade in Paris. France President Emmanuel Macron, celebrating his final Bastille Day in office, hosted around 30 world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, highlighting Europe’s commitment to collective security.
The parade featured Ukrainian soldiers, French-trained Ukrainian fighter pilots, and nearly 6,800 troops, the largest participation in the event’s history. Military aircraft from several European nations also took part.
Bastille Day, observed every year on July 14, commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, a landmark event that symbolised the start of the French Revolution. The uprising ultimately led to the fall of the French monarchy and laid the foundations for modern France.
