Four members, including retired Bombay High Court judge Justice Surendra Pandharinath Tavade and former Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla, were sworn in as members of the Maharashtra Lokayukta institution today.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma administered the oath of office to them at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai.
According to an official release, retired Chief District Judge Suvarna Kishore Keole was sworn in as another Judicial Member, while retired Additional Chief Secretary Om Prakash Gupta and Shukla took the oath as non-Judicial Members of the anti-corruption ombudsman. The release said that the appointments were made by the Governor under the Maharashtra Lokayukta Act, 2023.
The members will hold office for five years or until they attain the age of 70, whichever is earlier. As per the Act, the Lokayukta institution consists of one chairperson and a maximum of four other members, including two judicial members.
