Former Indian spinner Ramesh Powar has been appointed as a member of the senior selection committee of the Indian men’s cricket team. According to an official statement, Pragyan Ojha will head the committee based on his seniority among the committee members. Accordingly, the senior Men’s Selection Committee now comprises Pragyan Ojha, Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Ramesh Powar.
The BCCI said the decision to appoint Ramesh Powar was taken at a meeting of the Cricket Advisory Committee held earlier today. Mr. Powar has represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs during his playing career. He has also held a coaching role for Indian women’s team besides being a bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
The BCCI also showed appreciation for Mr. Ajit Agarkar for his commitment, conviction and contribution during his tenure as Chairman of the Men’s Selection Committee. Since his appointment in July 2023, Agarkar led the committee through a significant period for Indian cricket, with India winning three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles and back-to-back Asian Games gold medals. He retired earlier this month.
