Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Toronto for an official nine-day visit to Canada and the United States from August 25 to September 2, 2026, to strengthen trade ties and deep investment links.
On a four-day visit to Canada, Sitharaman will participate in the inaugural Economic and Financial Dialogue with Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne.
The dialogue will provide an important platform for both sides to exchange views on macroeconomic developments, financial sector cooperation, bilateral investment opportunities and shared international priorities, and to further strengthen the economic and financial pillar of the renewed India-Canada partnership.
Sitharaman will also participate in an investment roundtable with leading CEOs, presidents and senior representatives from sectors including energy, artificial intelligence and critical minerals.
During the US leg of her visit, Sitharaman will travel to Chicago, Asheville and New York from August 28 to September 2.
In Chicago, she will meet local community members and explore startup collaborations at the University of Chicago’s Polsky Center.
Her main diplomatic assignment will take place in Asheville, North Carolina, where she will lead the Indian delegation at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting to discuss global financial stability and economic growth challenges.
