Flood situation remains serious in Bihar despite falling water levels

In Bihar, receding water levels in the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi and Son rivers have brought some respite to flood-affected people. However, the situation remains serious, with water levels still rising in some downstream areas.

The water level of the Ganga has fallen by twelve to twenty-five centimetres at various places in Buxar, Bhojpur and Patna. However, a rising trend continues in several downstream areas of Munger and Bhagalpur. More than twenty-seven lakh people across thirteen districts are facing a severe flood situation.

In Patna, eleven blocks are affected. Several panchayats in the diara areas of Maner, Danapur, Raghopur and Panapur remain surrounded by floodwaters following the rise in the Ganga, Son and Punpun rivers. Connectivity between several villages in Mokama, Athmalgola, Fatuha and Bakhtiyarpur and the district headquarters has also been disrupted.

Floodwaters have entered several areas of Saran, Vaishali, Begusarai, Munger and Bhagalpur, affecting normal life. In Bhagalpur, a boat carrying fodder capsized in the Ganga in Raghopur Diara of Naugachia block. SDRF personnel rescued all those onboard.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited flood-affected areas of Vaishali and Saran. He inspected community kitchens and relief camps and interacted with the affected people. The Chief Minister directed officials to further intensify relief operations in the affected areas.
