North Odisha continues to reel under flood fury as incessant rain has swollen rivers and inundated villages, roads and low-lying areas. The Baitarani, Budhabalanga and Jalka rivers have risen sharply, with flooding affecting Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and other northern districts. The Central Water Commission has also warned of flash-flood risk in several districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange Warning for four districts, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur, and Yellow Warning for 26 districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.

The IMD has also indicated the formation of a fresh upper-air cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal around 19th of this month, which may lead to a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal around 20th this month, raising the prospect of another spell of rain over Odisha.
