Flood conditions in Odisha continue to improve as water levels in all major rivers, including the Mahanadi, have receded. However, fresh heavy rainfall has caused widespread waterlogging in Bhubaneswar, while the IMD has issued fresh rainfall warnings across the state. Relief and restoration work is continuing in the flood-affected districts even as authorities remain on high alert.

 

The flood situation in Odisha is gradually improving with flood waters receding in all major rivers, including the Mahanadi. At present, eight sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam remain open to regulate the reservoir level. Even as water levels fall, the hardships of flood-affected people continue, with restoration of normal life still a major challenge. Meanwhile, continuous heavy rain since last night has disrupted normal life in the capital city Bhubaneswar.

 

Several roads and low-lying areas in the city remain waterlogged, with rainwater entering many houses and damaging household belongings. The India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts today and a Yellow Alert for the remaining districts. Rainfall alerts have also been issued for twenty districts tomorrow, though rainfall activity is expected to decrease over southern and western Odisha.
