Indian-American lawmakers have made a strong mark in the US midterm elections, with four sitting Democratic members re-elected to the House of Representatives and another making her debut in Congress. The elections were held yesterday.
Ami Bera, Ro Khanna, Suhas Subramanyam and Pramila Jayapal have secured fresh terms while Pia Dandiya made her debut, strengthening Indian-American representation in the US Congress.
Bera has won an eighth term from California, while Khanna and Jayapal have also retained their seats. Subramanyam has secured a second term from Virginia. Meanwhile, Pia Dandiya has won Florida’s 22nd Congressional District with 51.9 per cent of the vote. Elsewhere, Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller has won another term.
