Kerala, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya today declared a holiday for schools and higher educational institutions for tomorrow after demand by students and political leaders. They cited the late-night schedule of the finals and concerns over attendance and travel after the game. The World Cup final kicks off at 12:30 a.m. IST.

Sports shops in Aizawl reported record sales, with Argentina, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo jerseys selling out quickly. Some retailers said daily sales exceeded 1 lakh rupees, while online sellers also struggled to meet soaring demand. 

 

Mizoram is recognised as one of India’s leading football nurseries, producing dozens of professional players who compete in the Indian Super League, I-League and for the national team.
