Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the two year extension of Agniveers is aimed at creating a younger, fitter, technologically equipped and future-ready military. In a social media post, Mr Singh thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the decision. He said that this will also provide enrollment of all willing Agniveers as regular soldiers after the tenure of 4 or 6 years, who meet the selection criteria. The Minister said that it is a way forward to prepare country’s military for the changing nature of warfare.
