Ex-Southern California mayor pleads guilty to acting as illegal agent of China

A former Southern California mayor pleaded guilty to acting as an illegal agent of the Chinese government. Eileen Wang, who stepped down as mayor earlier this month, admitted to sharing articles favourable to Beijing on behalf of Chinese officials without notifying the US government as required by law. She entered her guilty plea in a federal court in Los Angeles and was allowed to remain free on a 25,000 US Dollar bond until sentencing on October 6. Wang faces up to 10 years in prison and three years of supervised release.
