Eight people were killed in a suspected gas leak at a shipbreaking yard in Bangladesh today.
Police said, the incident occurred at the Ferdous Steel Ship Breaking Yard in the Sitakunda area, during the dismantling of a decommissioned ship. Several other workers were injured in the incident. Police said, the initial death toll was six, but two more workers succumbed to their injuries after being taken from the site. Officials said, the workers died due to toxic gas emissions from the ship.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the gas leak and whether adequate safety measures were in place for the workers at the yard.
