Eid-ul-Azha celebrated across Bangladesh with religious fervour and festivity

The festival of Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated today in Bangladesh with religious fervour, solemnity and festivity as millions of Muslims across the country offered prayers and performed animal sacrifices commemorating the spirit of devotion.

Devotees started gathering at mosques and Eidgahs early in the morning for Eid prayers. In the capital Dhaka, the main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah ground adjacent to the High Court, while Baitul Mukarram National Mosque organised five Eid congregations beginning at 7:30 am.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman offered Eid prayers at the National Eidgah along with cabinet members, judges, diplomats, political leaders and senior civil and military officials.

Special prayers were offered seeking peace, prosperity and continued development of the nation as well as welfare of the Muslim Ummah.

In his Eid message, President Shahabuddin urged affluent people to extend support to flood-affected, poor and low-income communities so that no one is deprived of the joy of Eid. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said Eid-ul-Azha carries the message of sacrifice, piety and devotion to Almighty Allah.

Authorities imposed heightened security measures around Eidgahs and mosques, while Dhaka’s North and South city corporations made special arrangements for quick disposal of sacrificial animal waste across the city.
