Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan has said that efforts are underway to implement the “One Nation, One Election” proposal in the country. Speaking to mediapersons in Puducherry today, Dr. Murugan said simultaneous elections would help reduce expenditure and ensure more efficient utilisation of manpower and resources.
Highlighting the achievements of the NDA Government over the past 12 years, he said that nearly 250 million people have been lifted above the poverty line during this period. He added that more than 120 million toilets have been constructed across the country and open defecation has been eliminated in over 500,000 villages. The Minister further said that India’s allocation for infrastructure development has increased from 2 lakh crore rupees to 12.2 lakh crore rupees.
During his visit, Dr. Murugan also inspected the functioning of the Puducherry Railway Station and reviewed the progress of ongoing station redevelopment works.
Earlier, he planted a sapling at Annai Sivagami Government Girls Higher Secondary School as part of programmes marking the completion of 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government. Puducherry Minister K. Namassivayam, BJP State President V.P. Ramalingam, MLA John Kumar and several BJP functionaries participated in the event.
