Education Ministry takes action over irregularities in three B.Ed. colleges in MP linked to Barkatullah University

The Ministry of Education has said that it has taken immediate action after a TV investigation reported serious irregularities in three B.Ed. colleges affiliated with Barkatullah University, Madhya Pradesh. The report alleged that some colleges were not functioning at their declared locations and lacked the required infrastructure.

As these institutions are recognised and regulated by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the Ministry acted promptly to ensure transparency and accountability. The ministry said that, on July 15, it directed NCTE to verify the facts and submit a report on the matter. To carry out an independent inquiry, the ministry has also constituted a Fact-Finding and Verification Committee.

The committee includes representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Government of Madhya Pradesh, and the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is headed by a former Vice-Chancellor and education administrator. During the preliminary inquiry, it was found that apart from the three colleges mentioned in the media reports, one more college was operating from the same premises. The Ministry said, after the completion of a comprehensive review, strict action will be taken against any institution found violating the prescribed norms and regulations.
