ED searches 14 premises across 7 regions in alleged NHAI toll fraud case

The Enforcement Directorate is conducting search operations at 14 premises in connection with alleged fraud in toll collection at National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plazas. The searches are being carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The premises are located in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Jammu, Madhya Pradesh, the National Capital Region (NCR) and Kolkata.

According to the ED, there is an alleged use of unauthorised software applications for generating unauthorised toll receipts and diverting toll collections outside the official accounting mechanism. Forensic examination and NHAI records have corroborated the deployment of such software. The searches are aimed at recovering digital and documentary evidence, identifying beneficiaries and tracing proceeds of crime. The agency said further investigation is in progress.
