Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has said, Booth Level Officers are the foundation of India’s democracy. The CEC, who is on a two day visit to Uttar Pradesh, attended an interaction programme with around 500 Booth Level Officers in Lucknow today. The programme focused on making the electoral process more effective, transparent, accessible and citizen-centric. Mr Kumar said, every Booth Level Officer is known to voters for their dedication and transparency.
The Chief Election Commissioner appealed to Booth Level Officers to increase voter turnout and reach out to every eligible voter during the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. He said, elections in India are conducted in a completely transparent manner, in accordance with the Constitution, the law and the directives of the Election Commission.
The CEC highlighted that India has approximately 970 million voters, which is more than the combined number of voters in many countries. He said the Election Commission of India deploys approximately 15 million personnel during Lok Sabha elections, making it the largest such electoral organisation in the world.
