Eastern Railway plans to invest around 12-thousand crore rupees in the region over the next four to five years to enhance railway capacity. Speaking at the Rail Synergy and Bengal MSME Vendor Connect Summit 2026 in Kolkata, Eastern Railway General Manager Gitika Pandey said increasing capacity, expanding multi-tracking, modernising railway yards and developing terminals are among the key priorities.
She said a stronger railway network would improve connectivity, reduce logistics costs and boost the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector. She also urged MSMEs to develop innovative products and cost-effective solutions. The summit brought together railway, infrastructure and MSME stakeholders, with B2B and B2G meetings aimed at creating new business opportunities in railway infrastructure and manufacturing.
