EAM S Jaishankar to address annual high-level session of UNGA on Sep 26

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to address the annual high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly on 26th of this month.

Jaishankar will deliver India’s national statement during the afternoon session of the General Debate, which will be held from 22th to 28th of this month.

The high-level session is taking place against the backdrop of continuing geopolitical conflicts and growing economic pressures, including rising food and fuel prices linked to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

The UN General Assembly’s high-level week will also feature discussions on several pressing global issues, including the existential threats posed by sea-level rise, pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, climate action and the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, the process of selecting the next UN Secretary-General is underway. The upcoming General Assembly session will be the last high-level gathering for current Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, whose second term ends in December this year.
