Nation marks Passport Seva Divas today

Today is Passport Seva Divas. The day aims to commemorate the enactment of the Passports Act on 24 June 1967.
 
On the occasion, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar said that the rollout of Passport Seva Programme 2.0, the introduction of chip-enabled e-Passports, the opening of new Passport Seva Kendras and Post Office Passport Seva Kendras, and record levels of passport issuance are enhancing ease of travel, expanding access to global opportunities, and empowering citizens. In a social media post, the Minister extended greetings to all Passport Authorities in India and abroad on the occasion of the 14th Passport Seva Divas. Dr Jaishankar also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to keep making passport services delivery faster, more transparent and accessible, guided by the vision of ‘Surakshit Passport, Sugam Seva, Sashakt Nagrik’.
 
Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia said that passport services are reaching even the remote areas of the country through the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) operated by India Post, with the resolve of Service, Good Governance, and Citizen Convenience. The Minister said that initiatives like E-Passport and Passport Seva Programme 2.0 are powerful evidence of India’s modern, digital, and empowered administrative system. He added, the campaign will continue unabated to provide citizens with simple and high-quality passport services.
