External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar today lauded the successful conclusion of BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi, saying that the world saw the strong convening power of India, as most of the heads of state were present to represent their countries.

 

Talking to the media, Dr Jaishankar said that it is important to recognise that this BRICS summit was taking place in a very polarised world, where there are two major conflicts and very strong opinions and interests. He said that all countries were able to get out a statement urging peace, security, stability, long-term understanding, the smooth flow of global trade, supply chains, energy, and of the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure. 

 

Dr Jaishankar informed that there were 32 delegations that had come from 11 member states, 10 partner states, four regional organisations and seven international organisations. He said that, even in the midst of this polarisation, a consensus was forged on the toughest issue of the day, which was the West Asia conflict. 

 

The Minister stated that the BRICS countries were very clear that any act of terrorism is a criminal act, and it also explicitly recognised the unacceptability of the Pahalgam attack. Condemning the terrorism, Dr Jaishankar said that BRICS emphasised zero tolerance for terrorism and rejected double standards in countering it.
