EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar co-chairs 4th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar co-chaired the 4th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting in Manama today. During his opening remarks, Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the expanding scope of India-Bahrain cooperation, encompassing trade, investment, defense, and maritime security. He underscored the historic and deeply rooted ties between the societies of India and Bahrain, driven by shared commitments to peace, security, and development. “We see great potential in areas such as space, education, science, and technology,” he said, reaffirming India’s priority in enhancing cooperation with Bahrain.

 

EAM noted India’s recent joining of the Combined Maritime Forces headquartered in Manama as a step toward strengthening regional maritime security.The minister emphasized new opportunities in space, education, technology, and science sectors. He welcomed Bahraini investors to explore opportunities in India while expressing appreciation for Bahrain’s treatment of the Indian diaspora, which he described as a vital bridge between the two nations.Dr. Jaishankar lauded Bahrain’s support for India in regional and multilateral forums and expressed gratitude for the care and welfare extended to the Indian community in Bahrain, which he described as a ‘bridge’ between the two nations.

 

Touching upon regional issues, the minister addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza, reiterating India’s principled stance against terrorism and its commitment to international humanitarian law. He called for an early ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the timely delivery of humanitarian aid. Dr. Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue and acknowledged Bahrain’s alignment in seeking peace and stability in the region.The bilateral meeting aims to review and strengthen the comprehensive partnership between India and Bahrain, building on their historical ties and shared vision for regional development and security.
