DUSIB approves rehabilitation benefits for all eligible families residing in slum clusters

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has approved rehabilitation benefits for all eligible families residing in slum clusters established up to January 1, 2025. The decision was taken at the 36th Board Meeting of DUSIB, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said the move will pave the way for permanent housing for around four to five lakh families living in JJ clusters across Delhi, benefiting nearly 20 lakh people. Ms Gupta also said that the revised eligibility cut-off date will enable a much larger number of families to avail rehabilitation benefits. She noted that many residents had remained outside the ambit of earlier schemes due to previous eligibility conditions.

The Chief Minister highlighted that eligible beneficiaries will be provided with multi-storey flats equipped with essential civic amenities. These include social infrastructures such as schools, Anganwadis, health facilities and children’s playgrounds. She added that the government will make efforts to rehabilitate families within or near their existing settlements, in line with the commitment of the Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan rehabilitation scheme.

Ms Gupta said the rehabilitation drive will be implemented in mission mode through the Public-Private Partnership model. She also expressed confidence that coordinated efforts of the Centre and the Delhi Government will bring transformative changes in the lives of lakhs of slum residents and further strengthen the vision of providing a permanent home to every eligible poor family.
