Durand Derby in Kolkata cancelled due to security concerns and ongoing protests

In Kolkata, today’s Durand Derby match has been cancelled. A press release from CPRO Defence said, ‘The much anticipated Derby match of the 133rd Indian Oil Durand Cup Group A fixture between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Emami East Bengal FC scheduled at the Vivekananda Yube Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata today has been abandoned.

This has been done because of the inability of the state police to provide necessary security for the match due to other engagements.’ The venues of quarterfinal fixtures are Kokrajhar, Shillong Jamshedpur, and Kolkata. There were reports that the supporters of both teams would show protest and demand justice for the recent rape and murder of a lady doctor at R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.
