Drug regulatory & law enforcement agencies intensify coordinated action against illegal misbranded drugs in New Delhi

Drug Regulatory and Law Enforcement Agencies have intensified coordinated action against illegal manufacture and distribution of misbranded drugs in New Delhi. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has been undertaking continuous surveillance to identify criminal activities related to the manufacture and distribution of misbranded and spurious drugs. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) works in close coordination with Delhi Police and other enforcement agencies whenever leads relating to such criminal activity emerge.

As part of this continuing surveillance and enforcement activity, Delhi Crime Branch had seized misbranded and not of standard quality Rabies Vaccine in April this year from the unlicensed premises in Delhi. Through a communication on 27th of last month,  the Drugs Controller General of India, DCGI requested all State Drugs Controllers to alert their inspectorate staff and maintain strict vigilance over the movement, distribution and availability of the misbranded vaccine batch of the drug.

DCGI has also confirmed that no part of the batch concerned was exported to any other country. Vaccines administered at hospitals, clinics and government healthcare facilities are dispensed through only licensed pharmacies. A total of four persons have been arrested by the Delhi Police in connection to this case.
