Domestic markets gain for fourth straight session

 
 
Benchmark domestic equity indices ended in positive zone for the fourth straight session today. The Sensex rose 544 points or 0.7 percent to close at 78,639. The Nifty surged 391 points or 1.6 percent to settle at 24,774. 
 
In the broader market at the National Stock Exchange, the Midcap 100 index jumped 1.2% and the Smallcap 100 index gained 1.3%. 
 
In the Sensex pack, 21 out of 30 companies registered gains. Among the top performers, Indigo climbed 4.2 per cent, Tata Consultancy Services rose 3.6 per cent and Infosys added 3.5%. In contrast, SunPharma shed two per cent, Bharti Airtel as well as Maruti dipped 1% and Tata steel lost 0.4 per cent.  
 
In the sectoral indices on the BSE, 26 out of 28 sectors ended in positive zone. Among the top gainers, IT as well as Focused IT advanced 2.7%, Services rose 2% and Industrials gained 1.3 %. In contrast, Hospitals lost 0.6%and Healtcare dipped 0.2%.
 
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive, as shares of 2837 companies advanced, 1552 declined, and 206 remained unchanged.
