Digital self-enumeration for Census 2027 begins in Ladakh today

The entire Union Territory of Ladakh will undergo Population Enumeration, the second phase of Census 2027, in  September, with the commencement of  Self-Enumeration from today. The Self-Enumeration is scheduled from August 17 to 31 in the Union Territory.

Ladakh would become the first Union Territory in the country to complete the Census 2027 exercise, with Population Enumeration scheduled from September 1 to 30. Around 637 Enumeration Blocks (EBs) would be created for complete coverage of Ladakh.

Chief Principal Census Officer and Director of Census Operations for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, during a press conference, said the September schedule had been planned in view of the region’s harsh winter conditions, difficult terrain and limited accessibility of Ladakh.

Population Enumeration will collect detailed information on population distribution, demographic composition, education, economic activity, migration, disability, language, fertility and other population characteristics.

Census 2027 is being conducted digitally, with House Listing Operations completed from June 1 to 30. The first phase achieved 100 per cent digital data collection.
