Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, has congratulated the Digi Yatra Team for enabling over 10 crore seamless journeys through the Digi Yatra App. Mr Naidu said that the milestone reflects the growing trust passengers are placing in seamless, paperless and contactless travel. The Minister highlighted that Daily domestic passenger traffic, which averaged below two lakh passengers in 2014, has crossed the five lakh mark on numerous occasions over the last three years. He said that annual passenger traffic across Indian airports is projected to reach fifty crores by 2030 and double to nearly one hundred crores by 2040, supported by the government’s vision to make air travel more accessible and convenient.
Mr Naidu emphasised that to effectively manage this exponential growth, the government is adopting multiple digital solutions like Digi Yatra, Self-Baggage Drop Facility, and others for grievance redressal and AI-powered digital twins to optimise airport operations. He noted that while many nations continue to evaluate the large-scale deployment of biometric passenger processing, India has successfully operationalised and scaled Digi Yatra within a remarkably short timeframe. The Minister further informed that currently, Digi Yatra is active at 38 airports, and by next year, 27 more airports will be enabled with the application.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said that the Digi Yatra platform stands as one of the most successful digital innovations in global aviation currently. The app has witnessed over 2.4 crore downloads across iOS and Android. It added that by replacing manual document verification, the platform has reduced average airport entry processing times from fifteen seconds down to just five seconds per passenger. The Ministry further said that by eliminating physical boarding passes and saving thousands of sheets of paper daily across participating airports, the initiative also supports environmental sustainability.
