A Dhaka court has sent three leaders of the banned Awami League to jail in a case filed over an alleged flash procession in the capital’s Gulshan area on September 11.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate passed the order after police produced the three accused before the court and sought their detention until completion of the investigation.
According to the case documents, the accused allegedly brought out a procession in the Gulshan area of Dhaka on September 11. During the procession, a couple of crude bombs were allegedly exploded, creating panic among people in the area.
The September 11 incident involved a larger gathering of Awami League leaders and activists. Police had earlier reported making arrests at the spot and said crude bombs or cocktails were recovered following the incident.
The police subsequently carried out further investigations into the incident. Additional arrests were made after investigators reviewed CCTV footage and videos related to the procession.
Police later filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the incident.
