Development of NE region indispensable for progress of the country: President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu said that the development of the North-Eastern region is indispensable for the progress of the country. Addressing the 7th convocation ceremony of Sikkim University at Gangtok today, the President urged the students to stay connected to each other and move forward with a collective spirit of contributing to national development. The President said that Sikkim University bears a special responsibility for preserving the region’s language, culture, and environment, apart from being a centre for education and research. She congratulated the people of the state and the Chief Minister as Sikkim has become a fully literate state. Recalling that Sikkim became the country’s first fully organic state in 2016, Ms. Murmu said that Sikkim has demonstrated that development and nature conservation could go hand in hand. The President emphasised that education is a vital instrument for self-reliance and urged the students to empower themselves through education and work for the betterment of the nation. Prior to this, President Murmu flagged off the Aama Didi Bahini Bus Sewa at Gangtok.
