Delhi recorded the lowest September average Air Quality Index (AQI) for September during the current year compared to the corresponding period of the last five years. The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry said, the monthly average AQI of Delhi for September during this year has been recorded at 102, compared to 105 in 2025, 105 in 2024, 108 in 2023 and 104 in 2022.
The Ministry noted that the period from January to September this year witnessed the highest number of days with daily average AQI less than 200, at 194 days, during the last five years. An AQI below 200 falls under the Moderate category. The same period this year also witnessed the lowest number of Poor to Severe(plus) days during the last five years, with 79 days in 2026. The Ministry added that the period from January to September 2026 has witnessed the joint-lowest average PM2.5 concentration in Delhi compared to the corresponding period since 2022.
The Ministry said that the Commission for Air Quality Management is working closely with various stakeholders concerned to take effective measures to improve air quality in Delhi-National Capital Region. It added that these efforts will be further intensified with an endeavour to improve the air quality scenario in Delhi-NCR in the coming days.
