Delhi Police has detained the owner and coordinator of the coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar after flooding in its basement killed three civil services aspirants. Three students lost their lives after being trapped in the basement of the building yesterday. DCP Central M Harshavardhan said, two females and a male have died in the incident and their bodies have been sent for the legal postmortem examination. He said, work is continuously underway to pump out the water. A case has been registered and the investigation is underway.
Delhi Fire Department said, a call was received at around 7 PM yesterday about the basement of the coaching institute being flooded and some people trapped in it.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has directed the MCD Commissioner that strict action should be taken against coaching centres across Delhi which are running commercial activities in basements in violation of building bye-laws. In a letter to the Commissioner of MCD, she said that an immediate enquiry should be conducted to identify if any officers of MCD are responsible for the tragic incident in the Old Rajinder Nagar coaching centre. She said that strongest possible action must be taken against them if any official is found guilty.
