Delhi Police said it has arrested a person posing as an independent journalist for allegedly tarnishing the image of the police by uploading fabricated CCTV footage on social media. Addressing a press briefing in New Delhi, Additional DCP Manjeet Sheoran said that the Cyber Police Station of the New Delhi district flagged the content, following which an FIR was registered. During the investigation, it was revealed that the handler is a resident of Haryana. The police official said the handler had created the fabricated footage using AI tools. Delhi Police stated that the motive behind the act was to malign the image of the Delhi Police, spread anarchy, and create an atmosphere of unrest by inciting protesters and potentially triggering riots.
