Delhi govt intensifies inspections of e-commerce and quick-commerce warehouses to ensure food safety

The Delhi government has intensified its drive against food adulteration and to ensure food safety in the national capital. On the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Food Safety Department is inspecting warehouses and dark stores operated by e-commerce and quick-commerce companies.

During the inspections, officials found expired food products, pests, unhygienic storage conditions and violations of prescribed temperature norms at several premises. In a separate exercise, the department tested 59 samples of desi ghee collected from various markets across Delhi. Of these, 19 samples were found unsafe for human consumption, while four were declared substandard.

According to the department, orders have been issued to shut down establishments selling unsafe ghee, and their licences have been suspended. The Chief Minister has directed the department to strengthen monitoring and take strict action against those violating food safety standards.
