Defence Ministry says three Indian Navy training squadron ships depart Seychelles after port call

The Defence Ministry said that three ships of the Indian Navy’s first training squadron have departed Port Victoria, Seychelles, on completion of their port call during the ongoing training deployment. These ships, including INS Tir, INS Sujata, and the Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarathi, departed the port on the 15th of October. The Ministry said that the engagement reinforced the longstanding India-Seychelles partnership through professional training, capacity building, and interactions with the country’s leadership and maritime community. It added that during the port call, the Senior Officer, First Training Squadron, along with the Commanding Officers of the visiting ships, called on the Chief of Defence Forces of the Seychelles Defence Force (SDF), Maj Gen Michael Rosette. During the meeting, discussions focused on the enduring partnership and bilateral cooperation between the two forces.

The Ministry said that the programme featured professional activities and cross-training visits, along with firefighting and small-arms training for SDF personnel. The First Training Squadron also conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Seychelles Coast Guard Ship Andromache, featuring joint patrolling, communication drills, and coordinated manoeuvres. Outreach initiatives, including a medical camp and the distribution of essential supplies by the Indian Navy Band, were carried out.

The Ministry said that the deployment underscores the strong bonds of friendship between India and Seychelles and reflects the Indian Navy’s commitment to capacity building and regional partnerships in line with the vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
