Defence Minister meets IAF personnel at Bagdogra; lauds their vigilance and operational readiness

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called upon Air Force personnel stationed at Bagdogra to maintain a high level of operational preparedness and vigilance, considering the region’s strategic importance in safeguarding the security of north-eastern India. Mr Singh was speaking to Air Force personnel at Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, before proceeding to Sikkim.

He said the nature of modern warfare was changing rapidly and was no longer confined to conventional battles along the borders. Cyberattacks, drone warfare, proxy wars and information warfare, including the spread of misinformation through social media, had emerged as major security challenges.

The Defence Minister stressed that military personnel must remain technologically aware and well-equipped to deal with these emerging threats. He said advanced technology alone could not ensure victory without courage, discipline, high morale and a strong sense of responsibility.

Mr Singh also emphasised the need to strengthen cordial relations between the armed forces and local communities, saying that public support was an important pillar of national security.

Highlighting the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, he said Indian startups and industries were making significant contributions to the development of drones, anti-drone systems and other advanced defence equipment. The armed forces were also adopting indigenous technologies and modern training methods to prepare for future challenges.

The Defence Minister said every successful military operation was the result of collective teamwork, dedication and professional commitment. He added that the entire nation stood firmly behind its armed forces.
